In theory, coaching may address all dimensions of our lives – from private and professional life to health, wealth, our relationships with others or with environment. We may address a particular, precise situation but to deal with it, a lot of various aspects of the universe of our lives might be involved.
Still, why do we join coaching sessions? (What is actually happening?)
The starting point is a specific situation in our life. We generally turn to coaching when somewhere something is wrong, when we have a special need. One of the reasons why we turn to coaching (we might not even be aware of it) is to be in the presence of someone who will be there for us and go along with us even when we are about to give in. Generally speaking, apart from primary needs (remember Maslow’s pyramid?), we need affection, appreciation/recognition, and self-assessment. We would like to share our plans and dreams in order to be confirmed, encouraged or, maybe, even to be praised (although we would rather talk about our problems and dilemmas). We appeal to coaching when we are stuck and cannot take a decision, when we have lost our self-confidence, when we want answers about the future of our career, when we have painful relationships with people around us, when we are afraid, when life feels like a burden, when parts of our life have lost balance or lack harmony; we turn to coaching whenever we find out we are not in the place we would like to be or whenever we set our heart for a better life.
No matter the reason, we need to know that coaching does not mean giving advice or getting ourselves “fixed”, but facilitate the answers from within and change something inside us or change our behavior. Without change, our approach means nothing. How many times have we found out (too late, sadly) that we kept doing the same things every time (routine) and waited for a different outcome? Coaching relationship is a genuine vehicle for personal change. But if we aim to have significant benefits from coaching we should become active partners and take the responsibility of co-creating the relationship. Next step is to proceed to action according to our desired results and commitments, and with the models and concepts revealed during the coaching process.
But let’s forget about theory! The best way to find out why and how it works is to try life coaching ourselves.
We have been invited, the door is open! All we need is to have the will to get in.
Nota bene: first life coaching session is free of charge!.
