Team coaching is very much alike the personal coaching, except that it addresses a group, as a whole within the system it is part of, not a single person. The sales teams in an organization use this service most frequently. (There are studies that show that the training efficiency increased up to four times when it was associated with team coaching).
In sport, the objective of team coaching is simple and clearly understood by the whole team: victory!, win as many games as one can in the competitions attended. In organizations, things are more complex. If in terms of sales teams fulfilling sales target is clear and, sometimes, sufficient, when it comes to management, administrative, or marketing teams, it is not as easy to reach agreement as to the target.
We may talk about performance and development in so many terms that, without a personalized approach, such targets lose not only the meaning but also the purpose. Clarification of the desired goals is needed to give consistence to the whole team members’ effort. Without a clearly defined objective that is measurable and widely assumed, direction of concentration of the team members is vague and, consequently, the team performance is inefficient.
Team coaching considers people in the team but, especially, the group regarded as a unified collective entity. Fail of a member to participate in the collective staff coaching can unbalance (sometimes dramatically) team effort to achieve results. Obviously, the premise is that only the team is capable to shed light on all aspects of taking the sets of values of the organization unanimously; the team will assume efficiency, will define the optimal interrelations among team members, will ensure the internal and external communication and cooperation, will generate solutions and will, later, tenaciously focus on the results assumed.
